Off-Road Vehicles (ATV/UTV) City Code Recap:

- No City registration fee/sticker.

- “All-terrain vehicle” (ATV) as defined in Iowa Code Section 321I.1 means a motorized vehicle with not less than three and not more than six nonhighway tires ; steering wheel for control.
- “Off-road utility vehicle” (UTV) as defined in Iowa Code Section 321I.1 means a motorized vehicle with not less than four and not more than eight nonhighway tires or rubberized tracks; steering wheel for control.
- All Traffic regulations apply.

- Unlawful operation:

- Without having a legal operator’s license.

- Without having such off-road vehicle registered and insured as provided for by State law.

- On private property of another without express permission to do.

- On City trails (bike/walking path), sidewalks, public school grounds, park property, playgrounds, and recreational areas.

- In a manner to create loud, unnecessary, or unusual noise to disturb or interfere with the peace and quiet of other persons.

- In a careless, reckless, or negligent manner to endanger the safety of any person or the property of any other person.

- Operator to leave or allow an off-road vehicle to be or remain unattended on public property while the motor is running or the key is left in the ignition.
- Operator to leave or allow an off-road vehicle to be or remain unattended on public property while the motor is running or the key is left in the ignition.
- Operations on Roadway:
- ATV and Off-Road Vehicles may be operated and travel on the right-of-way of any city public street and alley.
- ATV and Off-Road Vehicles may be operated on State primary highways (52 and 62) within the City limits over the most direct and accessible route between an ATV park or trail, a secondary county road, and a city street as defined by State Code.
- Operator or Driver shall be eighteen years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and have financial liability coverage in effect for the vehicle and carry proof of such financial liability coverage.
- Operate the vehicle by the required City speed limit or at a maximum speed of thirty-five miles per hour.
- Operators shall comply with all laws related to the operation of ATV and off-road vehicles on highways including but not limited to Iowa Code Sections 321.234A, 321.384, 321.386, 321.387, 321.404, 321.432, 321.437, and 321I.10.
- ATV and Off-Road Vehicles may be operated and travel on the right-of-way of any city public street and alley.
- Equipment: All off-road vehicles operated within the City shall have the following equipment:
